Aliás os ambientalistas apelidam Palin "killa from Wasilla." Se quiser ver porquê, siga este link."
"The biggest project that Sarah Palin undertook as mayor of this small town was an indoor sports complex, where locals played hockey, soccer, and basketball, especially during the long, dark Alaskan winters.
The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land. The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin's legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla...
"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities," Ms. Palin said Wednesday in her acceptance speech at the Republican convention. Litigation resulting from the dispute over Ms. Palin's sports-complex project is still in the courts, with the land's former owner seeking hundreds of thousands of additional dollars from the city.
When Palin took over Wasilla, the town had no long-term debt. By the time she was done, debt service had increased by 69 percent, the town had close to $19 million in long-term debt, making the debt around $3000 per capita. And the McCain campaign is asking us - seriously - to consider her a fiscal conservative.
She is a Bush-Cheney fiscal conservative: low taxes, unprecedented new spending, utter incompetence, endemic cronyism and massive debt."
Sobre a sua capacidade como Governadora:
De uma sua adversária política de longos anos em Wasilla, que a conhece muito bem, Lyda Green, que é a presidente republicana do senado do Estado do Alasca, pode ler-se:
"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"
Sobre a forma como mistura Estado e religião / teorias criacionistas:
Do artigo de Andrew Sullivan Religion Is Politics:
"... and politics is religion. With Sarah Palin, America has taken one very large leap toward a completely theocratic politics. For Palin, as for Rick Warren, there can be no distinction between politics and religion: all politics is subject to religious guidance and that guidance is to obey the literal truth of everything in the Bible…
Everything in her worldview must be according to God's plan, and God's plan is revealed without any ambiguity whatsoever in the literal words of the Bible, Old and New Testament. There is no detail too small, no policy too obscure, that isn't vetted through this filter. This is the fundamentalist psyche in its most extreme form: think Bush but less intellectual. Think Bush's evangelical tradition combined with speaking in tongues and a belief in the Rapture."
Sobre o facto de Mc Cain a ter visto uma única vez e a ter nomeado para Vice-Presidente:
Do artigo de George Palin Frum Again:
"John McCain has demonstrated with this insane decision that he is unfit to be president of the United States. This was an act of near-criminal negligence. If he can behave this recklessly and impulsively with this decision, the idea of allowing him to become president of the United States is only a smidgen less terrifying than thinking of Palin in that position.
Whatever few doubts I may once have still had about this election, they are resolved now.
Obama has to win. The alternative is unthinkable."
Sobre a sua posição acerca da homossexualidade:
Do artigo de Andrew Sullivan Log Cabin Needs To Rethink :
"Gov. Sarah Palin’s church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer. "You’ll be encouraged by the power of God’s love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality", according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has worshipped for about six years.
Palin’s conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain’s candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, even in cases of rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples. Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization, is conducting the "Love Won Out" Conference in Anchorage, about 30 miles from Wasilla."
